Se7en  is a 1995 American thriller film written by Andrew Kevin Walker and directed by David Fincher. The film stars Brad Pitt and Morgan Freeman, with Gwyneth Paltrow, R. Lee Ermey, John C. McGinley, and Kevin Spacey in supporting roles.
The newly transferred David Mills (Pitt) and the soon-to-retire William Somerset (Freeman) are homicide detectives who become deeply involved in the case of a sadistic serial killer whose meticulously planned murders correspond to the seven deadly sins: gluttony, greed, sloth, wrath, pride, lust, and envy.

The title sequence is fractured and jump scene's are used to switch scenes. The music is quite eerie and we see someone highlighting key words and as an audience, we can then identify that the genre is psychological thriller. The amplified screams implies a sense of danger, thriller and helplessness. Close ups of key objects suggest that they are focal points that could be internally used in the film. Also, the pictures all seemed to be blurred and out of focus which could be highlighting varies ideas of deception throughout the film.

In the title sequence of Dexter, The use of jump cuts was very prominent in the scene ultimately disorientating the viewer although, it's also a good anticipation feature. The use of music is contrapuntal allowing the viewer to be intrigued by the on goings and make them confused. The sequence it is a montage of the morning routine of the main character. This almost instantly feeds the audience with an enormous amount of information about him. While the routine by itself can be seen denotative, the choice and the process in the routine connotatively reveal a lot about the character. For instance, skin texture and eyes depict the age and gender. The choice of food – bacon, eggs and juice gives an idea about the culture he belongs to. Extreme close ups are used to exaggerate and emphases simple actions but make them seem brutal and violent.
